A Look at Frost 3.0

Frost 3.0 - Minimalistic Writing Environment
Featured in The Startup

A new challenger appears

For the longest time I’ve sought to streamline my writing environment, and I’ve written plenty of articles to that fact. One of the first needs of any software I use to write is its ability to strip away all other distractions.

I can appreciate the tools a full-blown word processor contains, but most feel like the strange amalgamation of desktop publishing and presentation software.

The best writing applications provide a single full-screen writing environment where you can’t waste time playing with font choice, weight, or exessive punctuation options.

A new contender to the distraction-free writing arena, Frost 3.0 brings this same appeal but also deviates from the pack. It’s not just about a place to write, but centres on atmospheric musical soundscapes to inspire while you type your masterpiece, and it’s freely available in-browser right now.

What Motivates Me to Write?

What is it that actually motivates me to write?

It’s not something that I’ve been able to easily answer in the past, and it’s still something that I struggle with regularly. On a good day, when I feel motivated to put fingers to keys, the reasons I write can vary from the exploration of a single thought right down to the simple basic premise of telling a really good story.

If you’ve been navigating writing circles in the last few years it would be difficult to avoid the mention of Julia Cameron’s “Morning Pages” Technique.

Put basically, the practice of “Morning Pages” is where every morning, you take out a journal and write out three pages in longhand. On these pages you can put anything you want, anything at all.
